Description

Democratic/Self-Directed Education

Democratic education gives students a voice. Learners have autonomy and are trusted to contribute towards decision making about how the school or learning community is run.

A self-directed approach to education allows the learner to follow their own interests and determine what, how and when they will learn.

For simplicity, we have put these approaches together in one category. However, some settings will lean more towards democracy, others will focus on self-direction. Some will encompass both approaches.

We recommend contacting education providers individually to learn about their own unique approach.
